In 1984, Hampden Hearing Center was established in East Longmeadow. Patients often ask why the name of the practice is Hampden Hearing Center, when the office is not located in Hampden. Hampden Hearing Center was founded in 1980 by Kathryn P. (Kay) Gillispie in West Springfield, Massachusetts. Ms. Gillispie was one of the first audiologists in the country to start a private audiology practice. She chose the name “Hampden” in reference to Hampden County, Massachusetts. The East Longmeadow office was opened in 1984 by Ms. Gillispie and Susan Bankoski Chunyk. Dr. Chunyk managed the practice at the East Longmeadow location while Ms. Gillispie continued to oversee the West Springfield office.
Hampden Hearing Center East relocated from its original location at 219 North Main Street to its current larger facility at 200 North Main Street in 1999. When Ms.Gillispie retired in 2002, the West Springfield office was closed and service is now provided at the East Longmeadow location.
Jennifer Lundgren Garcia joined the practice in 2003. In August, 2022, a third audiologist, Dr. Jamie Conti, joined the team. Drs. Garcia, Chunyk and Conti encourage former West Springfield patients to come and see us. As area hearing centers such as Mercy Hearing Center and Audiology and Hearing Services of Longmeadow have closed in recent years, the audiologists have also welcomed those patients to our practice.
The licensed, certified audiologists at Hampden Hearing Center offer audiological testing, hearing aid services, and related products to adults in Western Massachusetts and Northern Connecticut.
