Numerous research articles have shown a link between hearing loss and depression, isolation, poor self-esteem and anxiety. Untreated hearing loss reduces your quality of life.

Untreated hearing loss has also been linked with potentially earlier onset of dementia. A 2015 research paper reported results from a long-term study of people with hearing loss and their likelihood to develop dementia. Results showed a faster cognitive decline for people with hearing loss who did not use hearing aids. However, the rate of cognitive decline was the same for people who used hearing aids as it was for people with no reported hearing loss! One theory behind these results is that better hearing allows you to stay active and engaged with family and friends, which keeps your brain stimulated.

The bottom line?  If you have trouble hearing, have a hearing test sooner, rather than later.

If you need hearing aids, get them.

If you have hearing aids, use them!
