Have you ever driven behind someone who left their turn signal on for miles and miles without turning? If so, it is likely that they failed to turn off the signal because they could not hear the click. Your brain forgets that some sounds exist because the sounds faded away gradually as your hearing declined.

When you start using hearing aids, your brain is faced with many sounds that you think you should not be hearing. You need to become reacquainted with environmental sounds. It helps to have someone with you to ask, “What is that sound?” or “Has this car always made that noise?” If it has always made that noise, you will get used to it. If it hasn’t always made that noise, then maybe your car does need repair and kudos to you for noticing!
