Most people should use hearing aids in both ears. Why? Your ears send information to your brain, where the sound is actually processed. The brain needs information from both sides to determine where the sound is coming from, to understand speech in background noise and to receive the most natural sound quality. Today’s hearing devices include wireless communication between the two instruments, so using two devices allows your brain to get the most useful information. Two ears plus one brain equals the best hearing possible!

If you only have hearing loss in one ear, of course you may use one hearing aid.  If you’ve been told a hearing aid can’t help, specialized devices are available.
